May is Mental Health Awareness Month – Come Streaking With Me!

No, not that kind of streaking.

I’m talking about the Still I Run May RunStreak – an annual event that encourages people to run or walk every day in May to raise awareness for mental health. As a proud co-captain of the Still I Run: Saginaw Chapter, I’m lacing up (fully clothed, I promise) and hitting the pavement, trails, or treadmill to support something that matters deeply to me: mental health awareness.

Your streak, your way.

Still I Run is all about breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and encouraging movement as a tool for healing. This year’s streak theme is “Your Streak, Your Way” – because there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to mental health or movement.

  • Run or walk at least 1 mile every day in May
  • Tally up 31 miles over the month – however and whenever you want

If the idea of running every day makes your knees cry, don’t worry. Walk, hike, roll, wheel, shuffle—movement is movement, and all of it counts. Pajamas and messy buns are totally acceptable attire. The goal isn’t speed, mileage, or competition – it’s consistency, self-care, and connection. What matters most is the commitment to showing up for yourself and your mental health.

How to Join the Fun

  • Sign up at stillirun.org/runstreak. You’ll get access to tracking tools, motivational goodies, and the option to snag cool swag like a medal or hat.
  • Track your miles with Race Roster or print a tracker.
  • Join the Still I Run Strava club to see your fellow streakers in action.
  • Want to go the extra mile (pun intended)? Fundraise or donate to support Still I Run’s programs, including the Starting Line Scholarship, which helps individuals start running for their mental health, and the local run chapter program.

Meet the Still I Run Saginaw Chapter

Speaking of local run chapters… we have one right here in Saginaw!

I’m proud to co-lead the Still I Run Saginaw Chapter with my friend Jessica, where we keep things low-pressure, high-encouragement, and 100% stigma-free. We meet every other Monday at 5:30 PM for group runs and walks. Not a runner or walker? Or maybe you just want to do something different?Bring your bike or strap on some rollerblades. Everyone is welcome – no matter what style of movement you want to do or what pace you do it at, we are out here for the fresh air and friendship. We start and finish together, and there’s always someone to chat with (or not, if you just need quiet time with your feet and your thoughts).

Why I’m “Streaking”

I don’t do this for speed records or daily Instagram content to bring me one step closer to being an influencer (okay, maybe a little bit of “doin’ it for the ‘gram”, and no judgment here if you do, too). I do it because moving my body – even just a helps calm my brain, lift my mood, and remind me that I’m not alone in this journey.

I swear I’m not doing it for the ‘gram… 🤥🤣

Some days I run with energy. Some days I walk with exhaustion. But every mile is a mile earned, and every step is a message: mental health matters.

So come streaking with me this May (again, fully clothed). Let’s move for mental health—your way, every day.
