I know February is the shortest month, but it really seemed to fly by this year. It was another month of extreme winter weather here in Michigan, but fortunately my friends and I found a safe and clear outdoor path to run many of our miles! We still recorded a lot of indoor miles, but it was so nice to step outside once a week or so and run out in Mother Nature and accomplish my third month in a row of 100 miles!! Let’s take a look at my February details…
- Total Miles: 100.12 miles
- January 2018: 66.50 miles / January 2019: 100.03 miles
- February 2018: 74.53 miles / February 2019: 100.12 miles
- March 2018: 89.00 miles /
- April 2018: 70.75 miles /
- May 2018: 100.19 miles /
- June 2018: 78.57 miles /
- July 2018: 79.76 miles /
- August 2018: 136.95 miles /
- September 2018: 137.30 miles /
- October 2018: 80.11 miles /
- November 2018: 63.0 miles /
- December 2018: 103.33 miles /
- TOTAL 2018: 1080 miles / TOTAL 2019: 200.15 miles
What was I training for? Yuengling Shamrock Dolphin Challenge – 8k and half marathon
What races did I run? Winterlaufe 8k
Best performances: I achieved a PR of running 10 miles without using run/walk intervals, I’m super proud of that! We did stop at about 4ish miles to fuel and had to walk now and then to avoid ice, but it definitely helped my confidence.
Opportunities for improvement: Same as last month… to fit in more strength training for sure, and as always… nutrition and hydration!
What’s ahead: It was more challenging than expected to maintain my 100 mile streak due to getting hit with norovirus and then a sinus infection in the middle of February… but I did it! My training plans will lead me to 100+ mile months in March and April as well. In May I’ll be doing another run streak, so that should keep my miles up! June and July will be challenging… and then at the end of July I start half marathon training again so it should be less challenging to continue the 100 mile streak.
As far as races go, I’ve got the Dolphin Challenge at Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend coming up in just 2 weeks! 6 weeks after that is Glass City Owens Corning Half Marathon. After that, my focus for summer will be 5ks and 10ks. I hope to break my 10k PR and to get another sub 30 5k, even if I don’t beat my PR.
I’m looking forward to a busy, fun March!

I feel like February just flew by too! My past week of training was focused on staying consistent with my workouts and allowing my body to recover properly. https://runningmybestlife.com/half-marathon-training-diaries-week-6/
