What was I training for? Yuengling Shamrock Dolphin Challenge – 8k and half marathon, Glass City Marathon – Owens Corning Half Marathon
What races did I run? Yeungling Shamrock Dolphin Challenge – 8k and half marathon
Best performances: Wow… this month was a lot of personal bests. In training, I ran 12 miles without run/walk intervals. At my races, I was less than a minute from an 8k PR, ran a half marathon without run/walk intervals, got a PR in the half marathon and finished it in less than 2 1/2 hours!
Opportunities for improvement: As usual… cross training, nutrition & hydration! I will say that I have made some valiant effort towards better nutrition and hydration, and after the Owens Corning Half Marathon I plan to start doing PiYo in addition to my run streak.
What’s ahead: Less than two weeks from now is the Glass City Owens Corning Half Marathon – I was seriously doubting whether or not I could PR again at that race. In fact I had kinda decided who cares, I got better than expected at Shamrock, I’ll just have fun. And that might just be what happens, but my training runs last week really boosted my confidence that I could get another PR. So we will see what happens!
After that starts the Still I Run – Run Streak for Mental Health Awareness in the month of May. I will be running at least 1 mile every day in May. I was going to be running the MOM 5k in Royal Oak for mental health awareness/suicide prevention, but plans have changed and I won’t be doing that one. I’ll be running the Run Like an Animal 5k with My Team Triumph on May 5th. After that, I really am not sure of my race plans. The only thing that I have for sure on my schedule is the Running to Honor 5k on July 27th.
April has been good to me so far… I’m looking forward to what else it has to bring me!
