Goals for 2017, Running, Training Recap

October 2017 Training Recap

How in the world is it already November? It seems like the month of October flew right by. It was a busy month, with a 5k to start and finish it and a little marathon in the middle. ;) While it does seem like October was a whirlwind, at the same time it feels like the marathon was ages ago – not less than a month ago! My post marathon recovery was so much better and faster this time. And while I do not plan on running a marathon in 2018, I am actually itching to do another marathon in the future!! So let’s recap October, shall we?

What was I training for? Detroit Marathon

What races did I run? Bruckelaufe 5k, Detroit Marathon and Trick or Trot 5k

Best performances: Of course the Detroit Marathon was the best performance this month. My 5ks were really just for fun!! ;) But I was really impressed with how well I did in Detroit despite the weather and circumstances. I am really glad that I was able to run with my friend Nikki for the first half of the race to help her complete her first half marathon, and then I was really impressed by how well I kicked in for the second half of the marathon! I finished the race really strong, much stronger than the year before, and I finished already wanting to do another marathon because I know I can just keep getting better.

Opportunities for improvement: Cross training is always my weakest point, but already in November I have started to make improvements on that. My husband and I started a challenge group with some of our friends on Facebook doing the Beachbody workout program T25. We are two weeks into it and week 2 was a little bit rough, but we are bound and determined to complete this program! T25 was really helpful with my running in the past. I am also starting a goal of a run/walk streak… I want to run or walk at least one mile every day. This was supposed to start the first of November, and I did start it then, but I missed a day. Currently I am on 3 days in a row and plan on keeping it up!! I might adapt for it to allow biking, swimming, elliptical, etc. miles as well, but for now we’ll keep it as running and walking.

What’s ahead: We don’t have a race picked out yet for November, which I really want to make sure we do because I do not want to lose my race streak! At this point I am going on three years straight of running a race every month, so I want to keep it going. Hopefully we will do a turkey trot or find some other local inexpensive race to do before the month is over.

I have already started planning my races for 2018, and like I mentioned in my September recap I am trying to keep the races close to home and inexpensive this year. We have a lot going on personally in our family right now so unfortunately it does not allow much extra money or time for out of town racing. I have really enjoyed doing more local races lately, and spending more time with my husband. Life is short and it is so important to spend it with the people you love the most!

I’m not sure if you noticed in my banking the miles update, but I have already surpassed my mileage for the year from last year!! That is freaking amazing!! I have no idea what my goal is going to be for 2018… it will definitely be a little different not training for a marathon, but witih my hopefully continued run/walk streak that will keep the miles up! We shall see!
