Happy New Year everyone! I hope that everyone had a great time celebrating the end of 2017 and welcoming 2018. I know a lot of people who finished of 2017 with huge running accomplishments: anywhere from running odd distances to end up with an even number of miles for the year, running 20.17 miles, racing, or even some that ran 26.2 – not racing! I finished up 2017 with a run that started at 2:17pm and ended up being 3.69 miles to give myself an even 835 miles for the year. Yes, that’s right – 835, 105 miles more than my goal for the year and almost 130 more miles than last year. Let’s talk about the rest of December, shall we?

What was I training for? I came up with a training plan to get ready for Winterlaufe 8k in February and Bayshore half marathon in May – yeah, early, I know! So I started working on that.
What races did I run? BARC Christmas 5k
Best performances: BARC Christmas 5k – the conditions were rough! Fresh falling snow is pretty but it made for a feeling of running in sand. And still I pulled off not only a course PR but 2nd in my age group!
Opportunities for improvement: Definitely my diet. I have put on quite a few pounds over the last couple of months due to poor eating habits. My training hasn’t been perfect, but it is definitely better than it was last month.
What’s ahead: Well, my crazy self has really been craving another marathon. Who knew that I would get hooked? It isn’t something that a thoroughly enjoy necessarily, but the training keeps me on point. So I am looking at potentially doing the Martian Marathon in April, which means I will start marathon training NOW. I haven’t made a final decision on whether or not I am running it yet, but definitely leaning towards yes. I also plan on (as usual) incorporating more cross training, especially strength training. I am feeling really good about 2018 and look forward to what is in store!
