In May I completed my first ever run/walk streak – I participated in the “Still I Run” streak for Mental Health Awareness month, and I walked or ran at least 1 mile every day in the month of May. I came close to breaking my streak a few times but I was determined to accomplish this goal. Not only did I manage to keep my streak going, but I also managed to achieve a 100 mile month for the first time since training for the Detroit Marathon last year! I’m geared up to keep the momentum going, although June 1st I did not walk or run, but I did do a cross training workout. I’d like to keep my streak of doing some sort of activity every day, even if it is just an easy 1 mile walk or quick yoga routine. Let’s get into the details of my May…

What was I training for? Bayshore Half Marathon
What races did I run? MOM 5k, Bayshore Half Marathon
Best performances: As bummed as I am to have missed my PR for a half marathon by mere seconds at Bayshore, I keep telling myself I really performed well considering the conditions. It was already over 70 degrees at race start and it was so humid… so to keep such a consistent pace all the way til the end, to run the second half faster than the first, and to only be seconds away from a PR… that’s pretty darn amazing. Both races I ran this month were hot. I am really looking forward to a hopefully cooler race this upcoming weekend in Ludington.
Opportunities for improvement: I plan to keep the momentum going with my cross training this month. Now that my run/walk streak is over, my bike is ready to go! I also have friends that are going to a yoga class weekly (it is more of a deep stretching workout which is great since it is on Mondays right after long weekend runs) which will keep me motivated. I really am going to try to focus on cleaning up my diet this month, too.
What’s ahead: This Saturday is the Ludington Lakestride 10k – I’m not a huge fan of 10k races, but I’m looking forward to a girl’s weekend on the lake and running with my best friend! I don’t have any other races planned for June, but July will be quite full… two 5ks the week of the 4th and I plan to do my first duathlon my birthday weekend! All of this is mixed into my training plan for the BIG race… Detroit Free Press/Chemical Bank Marathon on October 21st, 2018!
